Workshop sessions

Creating and deploying a total rewards strategy

Kansas City employers are all-too experienced in the "war for talent" and as the ratio of job seekers to job openings has stabilized around 1.1 to 1, it is now more difficult than ever for employers to attract and retain the talent organizations need to drive business results. To bolster your recruitment and retention efforts, it is important to have a defined total rewards strategy, while ensuring that you’re investing in the benefits and rewards that matter most to your current and prospective employees. During this session, we will explore a comprehensive process used for creating, evaluating and updating your total rewards strategy in order to maximize your return on investment in people, including:

-Using market research techniques and data analytics to drive pay and benefit decisions.

-Evaluating the effectiveness of communications related to pay and benefits.

-Applying change-management best practices.

Experience a more human workplace

This session will focus on a thought-provoking discussion on benefit trends driven by MetLife’s U.S. Employee Benefit Trends Study, with a focus on the human workplace. This year’s study tells us that employees are increasingly seeing work as an extension of themselves and that personalized options, including professional and personal development, flexible work schedules and robust employee benefits, will go a long way toward attracting and retaining top talent, while increasing loyalty and productivity. Employees want an employer who empowers them for success and will reward those organizations with their hard work, performance and loyalty. This session will provide new and compelling insights to:

-Help benefit experts navigate today’s changing landscape.
-Provide insights into the workforce of tomorrow.
-Think differently about how to engage an increasingly diverse employee population.
-Highlight benefit strategies that meet employee needs and business goals.

Pay, rewards, recognition... and reality

This session will take a short trip into the world of compensation, discussing compensation basics, the impact of recognition and other benefits and the reality of varying viewpoints on what's most important.

Technology trends that will change HR in 2018

Technology is transforming and disrupting every corner of human resources, and the benefits function is certainly no exception. We will explore the trends hitting the front lines of HR and technology in 2018 and what employers can expect in the coming years. Artificial intelligence, chatbots, mobile delivery, predictive analytics and a host of other developments are transforming the employer-benefits landscape in fundamental ways. In this session, we will touch on a wide range of emerging technologies that are altering both the employee experience and the way in which HR and benefits leaders perform their jobs. This session will provide key insights to:

-Leveraging mobile technology to engage employees.

-Artificial Intelligence in HR.

-Talent management.

What's happening in KC? Highlights from SHRM-KC's Wage & Benefits Survey

During this session, we will review key insights from the SHRM-KC Wage & Benefits Survey to include:

-How Kansas City area companies are adapting to the latest benefit trends.

-How to interpret and apply survey results to your organization’s strategic priorities.

-How to benchmark your current benefit offering to other employers in the greater Kansas City metropolitan area.

Happy hour

We'll keep the networking and sharing going over drinks and light appetizers following the workshop.

Mobile, Mobile, Mobile

Day 1 is about the word on every marketer’s mouth: Mobile. Why does it matter? And how do we get it right? Attend small group workshops about the future of mobile ads, mobile app development and trends in cross-screen targeting. Learn about the rapid rise of mobile browsing (and what that means to us) in our interactive globe installation. And hear from Kayla Witz, Founder of Mobili-T Media, about how to get caught up, and then get ahead.

THURSDAY, APRIL 14

Data Driven Marketing

We’re capturing more data than ever before. And we’re doing it more precisely. But we’re still not using data to its full potential. Used well, numbers can teach us about each other, inspire our creativity and help us take risks and innovate in our work. One highlight of the day: Peer Exchange sessions, where you can learn about the interesting ways people are using data in the industry. And don’t miss John Taff's impressive presentation about a rare skill: data design.

FRIDAY, APRIL 15
